Kaspar will be accompanied by renowned Near East Ensemble percussion team Victoria Carter and Majdi Kurd. Souhail Kaspar Grammy-nominated Souhail Kaspar, Master Percussionist, is known world wide for his brilliant technique, exciting performances and teaching skills. Born in Lebanon and trained at Nadi al-Fonun al-Arabia (Conservatory of Traditional Arabic Music) in Aleppo, Syria, he excelled in both classical and ethnic rhythmic patterns and techniques; there he received his Degree in Classical Arabic Performance. Mr. Kaspar has worked with legendary Egyptian composers Farid al-Atrash, Sayyad Makowi and Hanni Mehanna. He has traveled extensively during his career and has performed with artists John Bilezikjian, Kenny Burrell, Omar Faruk, Shujaat Khan, Kronos Quartet, Cheb Mami, Dr. Scott Marcus, Roberto Miranda, Tito Puente, The Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, Kathem al-Saher, Simon Shaheen, Sting, Strunz & Farah, Wadi al-Safi and many others. He has also performed for dignitaries such as Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and the Dalai Lama. His impressive body of recorded work includes soundtrack credits for the movies The Prince of Egypt, Sinbad and Scooby Doo in Egypt and for the documentaries The Region of the Nile, Darfur Now and The Great Bazaars. Victoria Carter
Victoria Carter has studied classical/folkloric Arabic percussion and dance theory with Souhail Kaspar,and he has certified her as an instructor of Arabic percussion.She has been a co-teacher for his Egyptian Rhythm & Movement for Raqs al-Sharqi workshops throughout the United States.
Majdi Kurd:
Born in Jerusalem, Majdi Kurd performs a wide range of Arabic music on Egyptian tabla, frame drum, and riqq.He began studying with Souhail Kaspar in 2004, and has since performed with master musicians Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Dr. Jihad Racy. He also plays drum solos for Middle East dance events.
Ziva Emityaz
Ziva Emtiyaz, B.A., is an award-winning dance artist from California’s San Francisco Bay Area. With training from master percussionist Souhail Kaspar, Ziva earned her certificate to assist worldwide in Kaspar’s Rhythm and Movement Raqs al Sharqui musicality workshops. She is the featured guest on his Rhythm and Movement DVD.

Percussion: Beyond the Basics A great and rare opportunity to learn from a true master.
Grammy-nominated Souhail Kaspar, Master Percussionist, is known world wide for his brilliant technique, exciting performances and teaching skills. A true virtuoso, his ability to improvise and embellish the rhythmic patterns of Arabic music, as well as his knowledge of ethnic musical history make him one of the most highly acclaimed performers and instructors of our day. Drummers learn the proper technique behind Middle Eastern percussion, and much more. Regardless of skill level, Souhail's one-of-a-kind teaching method reaches beginning to pro-level students. Need a drum? Ask Ziva. Beginning percussion students will learn posture and instrument position, hand control techniques, introductory rhythms and timing. Intermediate students will learn more advanced techniques, drills to improve speed while maintaining good form and more advanced rhythms. Egyptian Tabla (doumbek), riqqs (tamborines), and frame drums welcome. Date: Sunday July 14th
